This article tells you how to make a comment on a course step, reply to someone else, or edit a comment you've written. For information about more advanced commenting, please see Using FutureLearn comments.
Where should I comment?
You can write a comment on almost every type of step on FutureLearn (apart from quizzes, tests, and assignments).
However, you don't have to write a comment on every step. Comments are not assessed, and do not count towards your recorded progress on a course.
A comment can be by itself, or it can be a reply to someone else's comment.
Posting a comment
To post a new comment on a step, write in the box above the other comments that has your name and profile icon next to it (this will be your initials if you have not uploaded a profile picture).
There is a character count that will show you how many characters you have used. There is a limit of 1200 characters so that comments can be kept quite short.
When you are ready, click post to add your comment to the comment list on that step.

Replying: starting a conversation
If you want to start a conversation by replying to a lone comment, press the reply button beneath it and a box will appear where you can write your reply.

Replying: joining a conversation
If you would like to join an existing conversation (a comment that already has several replies), you can either press the reply button under the first comment in the conversation (at the very top), or you can scroll to the bottom of the conversation and add your reply to the box that will already be open.

Editing a comment
We all know that feeling - noticing a typo just as you press the 'post' button. Don't worry, you can always edit a comment that you have posted.
Just press the grey edit button to the right of the comment, make your change in the text box, and press finish editing to save your changes.
An edited comment is indicated by the grey text '(edited)' at the end.
